Seen from the air, Helmwood Farm's 105 acres - with more than half mile of road frontage - are imposing both for their generous woodland/green spaces, and for their rolling, cultivated fields. In addition to two ponds (one of these, a nineteenth-century quarry pond mapped on the 1880 atlas of Shelby County), there are two large barns, and also a large equipment shed. The owners maintain an extensive network of mowed walking paths in the meadows and through the woodlands. Approximately 60% of the farm's land is presently leased for cropping to a neighboring farmer and given over to the annual cultivation of corn, soybeans, and wheat. This arrangement could be continued under new ownership. It has also been suggested that Helmwood Farm has the potential to become an excellent small horse farm.
